Waddup Savi Crew!
So, if you’ve read the title, you already know, it’s been a rough week for me. Writing-wise, work-wise, heck, life-wise. But still I prevail. Yeah, I’m late again—a day late to the Savi Crew members who are sticklers for time (I see you!) but you know what they say, “better late than never.” Who exactly said that was probably always late themselves, but I digress.
As of the writing of this blog post, my current word count is 11,092 words which isn’t spectacular but at least it’s not dangling in sucky territory. Hey, I’ll take it.
I started off real slow but I believe my story is finally gaining some good traction. And this round of revisions, I’m definitely having major breakthroughs. So I guess, you win some and you lose some.
What I love about Nano is the incredible support system: Writers from all over the world are essentially trying to do the same thing I am—write a book. Struggling with plot? There’s a forum for that. Fresh out of ideas? There’s a forum for that. You can actually “adopt a story” and make it your own. Character motivation lacking? Yup, there’s a forum for that too.
There’s no excuse for writers here: Your writing buddies won’t let you off so easily. And if that doesn’t get to you, the motivation emails from your writing mentor will tug at your heartstrings and punch your conscience in the gut.
But I must mention a great idea from one of my writing buddies, Kate Cavanaugh (an awesome YouTuber that I’m always talking about). She was stuck on one of her projects and in order to get out of the funk, she took the Harry Potter “Hogwarts Sorting Quiz” for each of her characters. Her intention was to kill time and cure her writing block. Not only did she get over her writing obstacle but she gained new insight on her characters because of the quiz.
I took the same quiz for each of my main characters and here are the results:
My MC is Gryffindor (no surprise there since she’s bold, passionate and brave), her BFF is Hufflepuff (again, no surprise since he’s reserved, rational and down-to-earth) and her nemesis is Slytherin (spot on since she’s sneaky, resourceful and not afraid to bend the rules to her advantage). This helped me see my characters in a new light and gave them extra depth.
Anyways, I’m rambling again which means it’s time to sign off… Toodles for now.
And remember, no matter where you live, take a little time to enjoy the island life!
