Waddup Savi Crew!
Second week of Camp Nano and I’m happy to report that I’m still doing awesome; hitting my hourly count goals—life is good. At of the point of this blog post, I’m at Chapter 12 of my YA anime-inspired fantasy. Moreover, now I can focus on other projects since my middle grade fiction has grinded to a screeching halt. Stemming from beta feedback, it’s gonna involve MAJOR rewrites but I’ve completed the redrafted outline and I’m currently revising character arcs. Suffice it to say, this experience has been a learning curve. Nevertheless, that project is a no-go (at least, for the time being).
That Camp Nano update aside—as promised—I’m gonna highlight my awesome Authortuber cabin mates. Since there are SEVENTEEN of them, I will be splitting it up into two parts—eight this week and nine next week. If I featured seventeen people this week, WordPress would probably shut my blog down.
But my cabin mates have definitely been my rock this camp—that middle grade fiction rewrite crisis almost sent me the ER, jk—but they did offer me valuable advice that kept my writing career from ending up in the crapper.
This week, I’m featuring those cabin mates that I know fairly well (I’ve either followed them on YT a while or met them at previous Nanos). Next week, I will feature the “newbies” (at least, to me they’re new, lolz). But I wanted each one of these awesome people to have the spotlight they clearly deserve. So here there are (links down below). Enjoy.
Awesome YT name: Kate Cavanaugh | Cabin name: WritersGonnaWrite!
What I like about Kate: Her random thoughts, travel stories and writing updates that seem to eerily mirror my own writing journey.
Why you should follow her: Kate—currently on an 8 month solo road trip through USA and Canada—gives aspiring writers that pep talk they never knew they needed. Not to mention, her bloopers are freaking hilarious.
Awesome YT name: Becca C Smith | Cabin name: beccacsmith
What I like about Becca: Her quirkiness, unique sense of style and vlogs with the hubby (she had a birthday at Disneyland! #goals).
Why you should follow her: Becca custom-makes her own handbags (there’s one shaped like a dragon, OMG) and eccentric costumes (a previous IG post was Buffy the Vampire Slayer-inspired).
Awesome YT name: Diane Verrochi | Cabin name: nursinggeek
What I like about Diane: Her soothing radio voice, occasional nursing tips and one-of-a-kind content (one of her videos features an Icelandic book haul).
Why you should follow her: A self-professed nursing geek, Diane helps you in any way she can; whether it’s health/nursing-related, learning to navigate academia and everything in-between. Expect random, and love it.
Awesome YT name: Hey TJ | Cabin name: Hey_TJ
What I like about TJ: Her book hauls, musical talent (she plays the piano and the ukulele) and ASL (American Sign Language) tutorials.
Why you should follow her: Whether TJ sings her latest original song or drives through the city with the hubby, you’ll feel like you’re in the middle of an indie flick. And her flame-coloured tresses will draw you right in.
Awesome YT name: Jessica Reads and Writes | Cabin name: jbradbury
What I like about Jessica: Her candidness, NaNoWriMo updates and ability to get writing done with an active toddler in the house (snaps and claps, girl!).
Why you should follow her: An English teacher and awesome mother, Jessica isn’t afraid to really go there when discussing her writing goal fails, mishaps, etc. which is so refreshing. Not to mention, her baby boy is #adorable.
Awesome YT name: Haley Bascom | Cabin name: Haley Bascom
What I like about Haley: Her Mona Lisa conversations, awkward outbursts and girl-next-door meets sunshine-and-rainbows personality.
Why you should follow her: With Haley, what you see is what you get. Her daily adventures with her fiancé will have you in stitches. Whether she’s relating how her bogus Wi-Fi got fixed or how her writing class went, I dare you not to chuckle.
Awesome YT name: bytheBrooke | Cabin name: _brookpassmore
What I like about Brooke: Her bubbly disposition, Harry Potter references (FYI, she’s a Ravenclaw) and casual southern drawl (Gosh, dang it!).
Why you should follow her: From the moment she utters her intro, “What is up, you guys? Brooke here”, you’re already hooked. Brooke’s upbeat delivery, occasional goofs and pop-up subtitles can certainly become addictive. You’ve been warned.
Awesome YT name: RowanTree Editing | Cabin name: Rowan Fortune
What I like about Rowan: His Camp Nano updates, utopian anthology discussions and unique games/challenges.
Why you should follow him: The lone male in the Camp Nano cabin, Rowan—a native Brit and professional editor—makes you want to break out your china set with his cream tea discussions. If you need an analytical writing perspective, check him out.
