25 Facts About Me and My Favourite Things!

Waddup Savi Crew!

I just realized that many of you out there may not know me that well. I’m black, I’m Trini, I’m a writer—that’s about it.

So, here’s 25 random facts about me…

1. She loves being Roman Catholic.

I was born Catholic, I was raised Catholic, I will die Catholic.

2. Her longest relationship was a year and a half.

Boys are complex… and smelly. My brother is the prototype.

3. She hates pickles, cinnamon, mint chocolate, mixed flavoured anything and vegetables.

If I don’t like it, my stomach actually rejects it.

4. She is terrified of clowns, bridges, snakes and all reptiles.

I blame my childhood for these fears… Who keeps an iguana as a pet? (No judgement people).

5. She cannot swim and almost drowned three times: twice as a child and once as an adult.

I won’t go into a pool or the sea without my family members around.

6. She is the only member of her immediate family who doesn’t wear glasses.

Hopefully that will never change!

7. She is the ultimate dog lover.

I will see the scruffiest looking thing and be like, “he’s so cute!” Nothing like dog energy!

8. She’s anaemic.

I can never be a blood donor.

9. She’ll never get a tattoo.

It looks nice but it’s not for me. I don’t like the permanence; I’m so indecisive, I’ll probably wake up the next day and hate it. Plus, I want to be buried in the Catholic cemetery near my late grandmother.

10. She doesn’t smoke and hates smoking–it’s a deal-breaker.

That commercial with Nathan, a second-hand smoke lung cancer patient who died, really got to me. I don’t see any benefits from bad breath, stained teeth and a speedy death.

11. She has ten piercings… all in her ears.

The first two for my sixteenth birthday (pierced over because I had fleshy ears as a child), the next two for my eighteenth birthday, four more on my twenty-first birthday and two more for my thirty-fifth birthday. I’m not done either: two more for my fortieth birthday and I’m still holding on to getting a nose piercing, hopefully! Milestone piercings, everyone should have them.

12. She doesn’t like cake… unless it’s accompanied by ice cream.

I don’t really eat that much cake but I think it’s rude to refuse ice cream of any kind (except soursop and barbadine flavours). I could eat it any day of the week!

13. She has never done (and can never do) a push-up.

I fell off my bicycle as a kid, injuring my right wrist then later re-injured the same wrist during dance classes. So now it’s difficult to support my body weight with my hands.

14. She puts French fries in her burger.

I’ve been putting fries in my burger since I was sixteen years old. Back in school it started with potato chips in my chicken sandwich then it graduated to French fries in my hamburger. Some people think it’s weird, others think it’s cool but it’s going to end up in my belly anyways!

15. She doesn’t like crowds or anything in abundance.

A crowd of people gets me really anxious. Christmas Eve I avoid the mall and downtown like the plague. Even in church, when we’re late, my mother loves to walk down the aisle where everyone can stare at us; I just put my head down and try to reach my seat ASAP! A single ant is okay for me but if I see thousands and thousands crawling around, I get squeamish. A flock, a herd, a crew of anything gets my heart racing. I don’t get it either; I’m chock full of idiosyncrasies.

16. She is affected by flashing police and strobe lights.

Maybe my eyes are super-sensitive but I can’t tolerate flashing or strobe lights. Once while driving on the highway at night I was caught behind a police car and I started to get dizzy. I had to lose the flashing blue lights before I got in an accident or something. If I’m around strobe lights for more than a minute, I get a headache. Direct sunlight is also a doozy (I sound like a vampire, don’t I?).

17. She is a frequent migraine sufferer.

I’ve had migraines ever since I was 11. It could be brought on by anything from lack of sleep to the beginning of my menstruation cycle to too much computer usage or Coca-Cola withdrawal symptoms. I rock fewer ponytails nowadays because of my migraines.

18. She wanted to be an Olympic gymnast when she was a preteen.

I was flipping and tumbling all over my living room between the ages of 8 and 16. My late grandmother even told my mother to invest in gymnastics classes since she marvelled at my flexibility and dedication. It never came to fruition but I still enjoy watching gymnastics on television.

19. She has always had a big belly.

Don’t believe me? Check out my baby and childhood pictures… My belly has always been big so what’s the point having a small stomach now? It seems to elude me…

20. She does everything loud… except fart.

My laugh, belch, hiccup and sneeze can be heard from a mile away but no family member has ever heard me fart. My late grandmother was always trying to catch me but she never did. Oh, is that a little too real for y’all? Sorry, I thought we were sharing.

21. She doesn’t follow the crowd… unless it’s holy people on the narrow road to God.

If everybody’s into something, I rarely get into it myself. In fact, I kind of get turned off. I like to be into things that not everyone is doing. For instance, on my mp3 player I have Hillsong, RBD, Diego Gonzalez, Kudai and Ayumi Hamasaki. It’s always a mixed bag when it comes to things I’m interested in.

22. She would love to visit Europe (particularly Barcelona and Greece), Amsterdam and Hawaii before she dies.

I love to travel and soak up different cultures. Hopefully if I make enough money in the future I can still make these dream vacations come true.

23. Shoes are her number one obsession.

Boots, pumps, strappy heels, ballet flats, sandals… you name it, I’m obsessed with every pair, every colour. I’m a girl, it’s in my DNA.

24. BMW X6… her dream automobile.

I’m a BMW girl, I just can’t afford to own one right now…

25. She loves her naturally curly hair.

Straight hair is boring to me; it just sits there on top of your head, doing nothing… (No offence to my sleek-haired followers, do you boo!) Curls have bounce, movement and personality. I can’t imagine being who I am without my lovely curls.
